	Floating Candles

Since wax is lighter than water, it will float. Floating candles are usually small fancy shapes that are placed in a shallow bowl of water. They can be made using molds like ice cube trays, candy molds, muffin tins, or small paper cups. The candle needs to be much wider than tall to keep it from tipping over.

You will probably want to use a colored wax so the candle is more visible while floating on the water. As an alternative, add a few drops of food coloring to the water.

• Melt the wax and add color, hardener, ... to it.
• Prepare the molds and coat them with mold release, but do NOT use mold release on clear acrylic molds.
• Pour the wax and let it harden.
• Remove the candles from the mold and place on aluminum foil.
• Use a hot ice pick to melt a hole in the middle of the shape.
• Cut a primed wick to a length so that it is 1/2" longer than the candle is tall.
• Pour a small amount of wax into the hole.
• Place the wick in the hole and let the wax harden.
