PURPOSETo recognize those
campers-Scouts and Scouters-who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their
daily lives and by such recognition cause other campers to conduct themselves in
such manner as to warrant recognition.

ELIGIBILITYBoys must be at least First Class
Scouts with at least 15 days and nights of camping during the previous two years.
This must include one (and only one) long term campout (6 days and 5 nights).
Adults must meet the same camping requirements as youth.

NOMINATIONNominations are held once a
year around April and are overseen by at least two members of the OA not from the
troop. The youth vote in a secret ballot. A youth must receive more than 50% of
the votes to be nominated. Results of the nomination process remain secret. If
at least two youth are nominated, one adult leader may also be nominated.

CALL OUTOnce nominated, the nominees
must attend an OA ceremony and be "called out". (Remember that individuals do not
know they were nominated until they are "called out".) OA ceremonies are usually
held at summer camp and Camp-o-rees.

ORDEALOnce nominees have been
"called out", they must participate in a weekend "ordeal" to become members.
|
|
|
LEVELSThere are three levels of
membership - the first is Ordeal, the second Brotherhood, and the third Vigil.
Youth members are only eligible for Ordeal and Brotherhood.
